Janet Vendrig lives near the small lakeside town of Port Perry, Ontario where she grew up filling sketch books while wandering the wooded trails of her rural home. Spending most of her days outdoors connecting with nature in meaningful ways enriched and fuelled her creativity. Dissuaded from pursuing the arts, Janet graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN). She returned to her beautiful home town and continued to hone her creative skills with local artists during her nursing career and while raising her family. With deep rural roots and a diverse background as a nurse, ski coach and artist, Janet creates with a focus on the inherent wonder of nature and the changing seasons where she lives and plays every day.

Janet works with acrylics, watercolour, and natural mixed media.  Her watercolour autumn leaves are inspired by her favourite season with its warm vibrant colour palette. She loves the process of painting in translucent layers and seeing her leaves transform just like those outside her studio window during this spectacular fall phenomenon. She also experiments with organic textures by harvesting dried bits and pieces from her gardens creating compositions with both a visual and tactile connection to the outdoors. By sharing her daily world through her art she connects others to the wonder of nature enriching both the viewer and artist.

Janet treasures her solitary time, outdoor adventures and creating in her riverside studio experimenting with different mediums and styles. When not in her studio creating she can be found outdoors in her gardens or active on the water, trails and slopes enjoying time with her family and dogs on Lake Scugog and the shores of Georgian Bay.
